Media and public education has taught that us the constitution created a democracy and we gain our rights from the constitution. No. The constitution created a republic with a limited power govt. The Bill of Rights did not grant powers to the people. It emphasized that those freedoms cannot be infringed. (i.e. the Constitution does not grant powers to the govt to infringe on our rights. The first and second amendment does not create those rights, but the teachings distort to convince citizens that they do. Without the first and second, the govt still has not been granted powers to infringe on our rights.
