How Did SC Score On The Freedom Index In 2024?
Some Think We Live In A Conservative State, Yet The Results Say Otherwise
Each year, The Freedom Index issues scores on key votes for Congress and all 50 state legislatures. South Carolina, supposedly a “red” state, continues to be hampered by Republicans that show very little fidelity to the U.S. Constitution and limited-government Americanist principles. Below, you will see a compilation of how all elected public servants in Congress and the South Carolina legislature performed in 2024.
Interestingly enough, the state representative that SC GOP Chairman Drew McKissick awarded with Legislator of the Year on May 3rd at the SC GOP Convention, Rep. Brandon Guffey, scored a failing 33% on his scorecard in 2024.
A review of Rep. Brandon Guffey’s Freedom Index scorecard for 2024 shows that he had four anti-liberty votes. His anti-liberty votes included: a vote in support of the “Health Czar” bill, a vote to table an amendment that would have prohibited state agencies from distributing voter registration forms to non-citizens, a vote to support an expansion in government-run education, and a vote in support of applying to Congress for an Article V Convention. It should not be surprising that the current SC GOP leadership made Rep. Guffey the example of their ideal legislator while hosting another SC GOP Convention that turned out to be full of shenanigans.
Certainly more deserving of being awarded legislator of the year by the SC GOP were any of these three state representatives that scored 100% on The Freedom Index in 2024, two of which also boast cumulative scores of 100%, Rep. Harris and Rep. McCabe, Jr.
The only way we stop our state from slumping all the way into the dark waters of communism is to replicate legislators like Rep. Magnuson, Rep. Harris, and Rep. McCabe, Jr. This year’s SC GOP State Legislator of The Year, Rep. Guffey, is ABSOLUTELY NOT who we need to replicate. All in all, we need public servants that have extreme fidelity to the U.S. Constitution and limited-government Americanist principles!
